For a little more than the price of an Alexander Hamilton, XSlimmer will sweep your Applications folder and leave code suitable only for your computer. For example, if you've got an Intel processor, XSlimmer will cut down iTunes from 129MB to 31.6MB: That's gastric bypass surgery for your computer.
You can drag and drop specific programs into the main XSlimmer window, or you can hit the Genie button and it'll add every program it can find on your machine. Once you're ready to go, hit the Slim! button in the lower right corner and XSlimmer rips out unnecessary weight from your apps. Other buttons on the nav include Stop to halt the process, Clear to remove all unselected files, and Reveal to show the selected program in Finder. History reveals your behavior log.
There are some programs that are internally blocked by XSlimmer itself from the process--Safari is one that's blacklisted--but the app will make backups for you just in case you mess something up. The trial version limits users to liposuctioning 50MB. If you want to remove anything more, you'll have to pay.

If you need a chat client to use exclusively with friends who use MSN Messenger, this app does the job, but doesn't offer much in the way of extra features. The tabbed interface makes it easy to organize your contacts into groups like Personal and Work, and sharing files is fairly painless. One of our main issues with Microsoft Messenger is the lack of Webcam support which is almost a must have with many of the new Macs coming with an included Webcam. The sign-up process also makes you jump through several hoops to get set up. Overall, if you just want to chat with other users of MSN chat or Microsoft Messenger, this program will work. But if you want more features, like the ability to chat with multiple chat clients and Webcam support, you will need to look elsewhere.

Version 3 adds some exciting new features including resizable text fields, the ability to reopen your previous browsing session upon launch, and significantly faster page load times.
The Snapback feature makes it easy to return to your original page when your surfing through a lot of links. Safari also lets you collect and browse through RSS feeds right from the bookmarks panel. We like the clean interface and layout of browser controls, but some more ability to customize would be nice.
Overall, we think Safari is a great browser for Mac, but if you want more add-ons and more customization features, you should probably try another browser.

More than just MP3sMP3 Rocket is another LimeWire source code fork, like FrostWire, and as such it functions exactly the same. When you search for a file using MP3 Rocket, you get results from LimeWire, and vice versa.
However, the user experience differs in a few ways. Although the name suggests the program only searches for MP3s, that's not the case. This has all the capabilities of the parent program and is capable of searching for and downloading all file formats. This includes the recent addition of torrent support to the main LimeWire code. The most MP3-centric feature here lets users share their iTunes music folder directly, as if they were on a shared network.
What makes MP3 Rocket stand out are the TV, Radio, and Games channels. There are more than 200 live broadcast radio signals coming in, as well as similar numbers for TV stations and Flash-based games, mostly arcade classics such as Pac-Man and Street Fighter. Radio stations are streamed live from FM signals around the country, and TV channels include the Sci-Fi Channel, Cartoon Network, videos from MTV and more. Who knew that MTV still carried videos?
Beware of the toolbar you must opt out of when installing the application, and MP3 Rocket struggles with the same performance flaws that plague other LimeWire-based clients. However, it offers reasonable performance and provides some extras along the way--not quite a rocket, but it definitely doesn't fizzle.

The 4.0 series further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.

The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

Down to the wireFrom its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications. The 4.0 series further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The latest update to version 11 adds some notable new features, such as the ability to manage all of the metadata for songs or albums, including downloadable album covers. Also quite valuable is the new DVD-burning functionality, an excellent tool for backing up large digital-music collections.
A well-organized interface displays all of the major features and settings. Four tabs across the top access the Audio CD Ripper, the Audio File Format Converter, Audio CD Creator, and MP3/WMA CD Creator. Ripping CDs is simple: Insert a disc and the Audio CD Ripper window displays info such as artist, track list, year, track length, and album length. The destination folder, the quality and format of output tracks, and even the filename format are all easily edited.
MP3 settings include the ability to choose constant, average, or variable bit rates. The Audio File Format Converter window features a drag-and-drop file selection topped by a conversion-format window. The program supports a large list of lossy and lossless formats including MP3, OGG, WMA, APE, FLAC, AAC, and 3GP. User Profile Hive Cleanup Service lacks an interface, and running it defaults to a basic function. Changing functions is available only through setting select Windows Registry values.
This tool is for those users suffering from slow shutdowns because of select profile problems. Results depend on the operating system. Before running this app, users are encouraged to read Help file results scenarios. Some profiles may block user log-in after running the app. Experienced users will have no problem adding the simple Registry values to change functions. The other functions compile a problem report or log the call stack.
User Profile Hive Cleanup Service performs a specific fix for a specific problem. Intermediate users may feel comfortable using the program if they're willing to take advantage of the well-written Help file, which does a good job covering the app. Experienced users with profile problems should give this freeware app a look.
